Tonight I found myself in the heart of it all, Times Square, which is a part of town I don't often frequent.
It's always a bit of a shock to the system to stand in the middle of Times Square. All the lights, the chaos, the noise. At the same time, though, there is this jolt of excitement, too. This lightning bolt moment of: "Oh, yeah, New York City. I live here." And it makes me smile :)
Because sometimes I get so caught up in going through the motions, staying on one straight line that goes between my home on the Upper West Side to my job in Midtown East, that I get used to the scenes and the sounds and forget. Forget that I am still living my dream -- my dream to live in this great big, buzzy city.
So as much as I despise Times Square sometimes, and all that noise and chaos, it was a jolt I needed tonight, I think. A reminder of this city that I love. And the reality of my life here.
