As I mentioned last night in my late-night post, we had some
pretty fun adventures in Brooklyn yesterday evening.
And crossed more stuff off The List.
Go back to the Williamsburg Biergarten, check.
Try the ice cream at Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, check.
Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge (again), check.

So much to say, but so, SO stinkin' tired right now. So instead of recapping our adventures of the night (which started at the Biergarten in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and ended with a late-night walk across the bridge), I think I will just post a quick pic of the Upper East Side (where I also spent some time earlier today in meetings*) and save tonight's Brooklyn shots for another day.

*Have I mentioned that I have a job lined up in Boston? A miracle, I know. I will be doing some part-time/contractor type work for a firm who shared office space with us at my old job. They happen to have a Boston office and are in need of some help up there...worked out pretty dang perfectly.

So. Last night. Brooklyn.

It was delightful! We'd been wanting to try the Biergarten for awhile now, so decided last night was the night since the weather was so darn pleasant. And let me just recommend to EVERYONE right now: GO to the Biergarten!! Oh. my. goodness. SO fun. The ambiance was amazing (I felt like we were in the middle of some little European village), the beer was great (obviously), the music -- so good (very old timey and fun), and the food...oh, the food. Didn't expect much, to be honest, and the other factors would have been enough for me. But wow. The food was fantastic! Better than fantastic, really. Just....well, you need to go see/taste/experience it for yourself (and I'd recommend the chicken). That's all.

We had a lovely evening out in Brooklyn tonight. Would love you tell you all about it, but I'm so so tired. Will have to wait 'til tomorrow! Goodnight, folks.

While taking our out-of-town guests back to Brooklyn on Saturday night (to where they were staying for the weekend), Dan & I saw just enough of cute neighborhood charm to really whet our appetites for more. So on Sunday, after our friends had left, we decided take the car out for a spin and do a little B'klyn exploring.


It's amazing how little I know about this borough. Aside from DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights, I really haven't spent much time there, but there is SO MUCH to see! For years I've heard about the charm of Park Slope's tree-lined streets and the cool, artsy vibe of Williamsburg. And now I can finally say I've seen some of that for myself.


We spent the afternoon in Park Slope lunching at an authentic Mexican restaurant, strolling through Prospect Park (which is, dare I say, almost as beautiful and impressive as Central Park) and drooling over all of the incredible brownstones. There was just so much charm. So many cute restaurants and boutiques. Loved, loved, loved Park Slope.


We then drove through Williamsburg and saw the many different sides of it, from the industrial parts, to the Hasidic Jewish community, to hipster artists hanging out in cafes. There were so many cute, candle-lit restaurants and cafes that we passed that I am dying to go back and try now.


Also on the list of Super Cute Brooklyn 'hoods: Fort Greene. Who knew? Not me. Again, quaint nooky looking shops and cafes and tree lined streets. Oh-so-cute.


Driving around all day, then back into the city that night, I was really struck with how HUGE New York is. I mean, from Brooklyn to Queens to Roosevelt Island to the Village to Chinatown to the Upper East Side and on and on and on....so many neighborhoods, thousands of office buildings & apartment buildings, all full to the brim with PEOPLE. People living, working, breathing in this city every single day. It's ASTOUNDING!

Probably my favorite thing about the day was this tree in Prospect Park. It was magical. I wanted to picnic under it and talk about dreams and life and God and hopes and wishes. Don't you?

Another long day...

Forgot my camera today, so wasn't able to capture the beautiful light dusting of snow we had this morning. Or the dramatic electric-blue sky accented with smoky purple clouds that hovered around the top of the Empire State Building after sunset tonight.

So (therefore) I am posting this old picture instead (sorry). It was taken last summer, I think. One of our favorite things to do in warm weather is to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and spend an afternoon wandering around Dumbo and Brooklyn Heights, daydreaming about living in one of those charming brownstones one day.

Not much more to say tonight. It was a long day. Again (I've had a lot of those lately). And I am so sleepy right now. Think I will go finish my book (which is one of the best I've read lately -- beautifully written, completely engrossing), then drift off to sleep.
